Ambica Mechanical Works

You can find our workshop at Gala No 3 in the Vijay Gawade Chawl in Malad East. We are situated right opposite the second subway bridge, which is a very busy part of the neighborhood. It’s a bit noisy with the cars and the trains, but it’s a good location for a mechanical shop. We’ve been here for years, and the place looks like it. There’s grease on the floor and metal shavings in the corners, but that’s because we are actually doing the work. We handle all sorts of mechanical repairs and some basic fabrication. If someone has a part that’s broken or needs a bit of welding, they usually bring it to us. It’s a small space, so we have to be very organized with where we put our tools and the machines we are working on. My small crew and I stay busy from morning until late evening. We don't have a website or do any advertising; people just know us because they see us working when they walk past the subway. It gets very hot in the summer because the gala doesn't have much ventilation, but we just keep the fans going and get on with it. We don't make big promises about finishing things in minutes. We take the time needed to fix it properly. It’s hard, manual work but it’s what we know how to do.
