It has been a long time since Aga Khan Education Service India started working out of our spot in Manabhatta Chawl. If you know Mandvi Lane in Versova, you know how busy it gets around here. Mumbai is a fast city and we just try to keep up with the day-to-day tasks. Most people who come by are looking for information about schools or how things work in the education system. We are right there in the middle of the neighborhood. It is not a fancy office with big glass windows. It is just a regular place where we get the paperwork done and talk to parents or students who drop in. Sometimes the lane is crowded and you have to dodge a few scooters to reach the door. We handle various programs and help out where we can. There is always someone at a desk typing or answering the phone. It is quiet inside compared to the street noise outside. We have been part of this community for a while now. People know us by the name on the board. We don't spend much time on fancy decorations or big meetings. We just focus on the schools and making sure the kids have what they need. It is practical work. We stay busy from morning until evening and that is how we like it. We have a small kitchen for tea and a few chairs for guests. It is not much but it works for us.
