Our place is in the Cama Estate over in Goregaon East. It's right opposite Kusum Masala, so we usually smell spices all day while we're working on the shelves. Being in 3/Ah-1 means we deal with the usual industrial estate stuff, like narrow lanes and delivery trucks trying to squeeze past each other. We spend most of our hours around metal sheets and painting booths. Shelving isn't something people talk about much, but it's what we do. It’s a lot of cutting, bending, and making sure the holes line up so the racks don’t wobble when someone loads them up. We aren't some big corporate office with glass walls. We have desks covered in drawings and order notes. The fans hum all day to keep the heat down. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit around and talk until it's back. It’s just how it is. We try to keep things organized but a workshop is a workshop. There's always bits of metal on the floor and the sound of someone grinding something in the corner. We’ve been in this spot for a while and the neighbors know us. It’s a practical life, making things that hold other things. We don't use big words or fancy promises. We just make the shelving systems and hope they do the job they’re meant to do for the folks who buy them.
