Down in Dadar West on Sundhar Maruthy Road, you will find A J Gaonkar Company at B 24. It is an old building, but it has some character. We have been here for a long time, so we have seen the shops around us change names and owners many times over. Our office is on the ground floor, which makes it easy for people to stop by without having to deal with the stairs or the lift. It is a bit cramped inside because we have a lot of stuff piled up from over the years. We keep meaning to clear it out but we never quite get around to it. The street outside is usually lined with parked scooters and there is always someone honking their horn. It’s just the vibe of the area. We have a small team here. We mostly just drink a lot of tea and get on with the paperwork. There is no dress code or anything formal. We wear what is comfortable and talk to each other like normal people. If a customer comes in, we just pull up a stool and chat. It’s a very hands-on way of doing things. We don't spend money on marketing or big signs. People know where we are. We just try to be honest about what we can do and how long it will take. It’s a decent way to earn a living without making things more complicated than they need to be.
