It gets quite loud around here near the Asim Bihari School once the morning starts. We are right in Galshaheed and the metal work makes a lot of noise that matches the busy street outside. The shop is filled with sheets of metal and bits of scrap that we haven't found a use for yet. My clothes usually have small holes from sparks or just get dirty from the machines by noon. When the school bell rings, you can see all the kids running past our door, and that’s how we usually know it’s time to think about lunch. We don't have any polished floors or air conditioning in here, just a couple of old fans that move the hot air around. Working with metal is tough on the hands and you have to be careful all the time. My father started this and now we just keep it going because it’s what we know. There are stacks of finished goods leaning against the walls waiting for the truck to come and pick them up. Sometimes the neighbors come in to chat for a bit, and we have to shout over the machines. It’s a simple life, mostly just sweat and the sound of hammers hitting metal until the sun goes down and we lock up the heavy doors for the night.
