Karula is where we do our work. It’s a simple name for what we do—Metal Work. We don’t have a street number, everyone just knows the shop in the village. It’s a loud place because there is always some hammering or cutting going on. My clothes usually have a few small burn holes from the sparks, and my hands are always rough. That’s just part of working with iron and steel every day. We make gates, fix farm tools, and sometimes help out when someone’s metal fence breaks. The shop is open to the air mostly, so we feel the weather. When it rains, we have to move everything inside so it doesn't rust. When it’s hot, the heat from the welding makes it even hotter. We have a few old machines that have been with us for years. They aren't the newest models, but they work just fine for what we need to do in Karula. Folks come by and drop off their broken items and we tell them to come back in a few days. We don’t have a website or a receptionist. If you want to talk to us, you just walk into the shop and wait until I turn off the torch. It’s honest work and it keeps the village moving. We like being part of the community here.
