Babbu Bhai Metal Polish

Our spot is out in Village Chaudhar Pur, right in the Moradabad district. If you know the 3A Bazar, we are quite close to that area. Metal polishing is messy work, and there is no way around that. My clothes are usually covered in black dust by noon. We have some machines that make a lot of noise, and you can hear them from the street. Babbu Bhai is usually here early to get the motors running. We work on all kinds of metal pieces that come in from the city. The village life is slow, but the work here is fast. We take our breaks under the shade when the sun gets too hot in the afternoon. People from the tehsil come by to drop off their items and we just write their names in a notebook. The floor is always covered in scraps and polishing compound. We don't have a big office or anything like that. It is just a shed where the work gets done. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to sit and wait, which is a good time for a smoke or more tea. The road toward the bazar is always crowded with cycles and carts. We just keep our heads down and focus on the wheels turning. It’s been this way for a long time. The village post office is nearby too, so we see the mailman every day. It is hard work, but it keeps the lights on and the family fed.
