Our little spot is located at 611 in Gobind Colony. If you know the Kharar area well, you’ve probably walked past us near Chandigarh. It’s a place for the younger ones to spend their day while parents are at work. We have a few rooms set up with toys and mats on the floor. It gets pretty noisy in the mornings when everyone arrives, but that’s to be expected with kids. We have a small outdoor area too, nothing huge, but enough for them to run around a bit and get some fresh air. The walls are painted with bright colors, though some of it is starting to peel a little near the corners. We do simple activities like drawing with crayons or playing with building blocks. There’s a kitchen where we prepare basic snacks and lunch. Sometimes the kids get a bit messy, so there are always wipes and extra clothes around. Our staff members are mostly ladies from the neighborhood who have kids of their own. They know how to handle a tantrum or a scraped knee without making a big deal of it. It’s a homely environment, not a big institution. We just try to keep the children safe and happy until their parents come to pick them up in the afternoon. It’s a lot of work, but seeing them learn their ABCs makes it worthwhile.
