Raj Carpets

Raj Carpets is over on Jangi Road in a building called Chandradeepa. It’s a busy area and there is always something going on outside our doors. We’ve been dealing with carpets for a long time, and you can probably tell by the smell of wool that hits you when you walk in. The shop floor is usually covered in rugs that we are checking or showing to someone. It isn't a modern showroom with bright lights. We prefer it this way because it feels more like home. We have carpets of all sizes piled up in the corners. Sometimes it’s hard to find a specific one, but we usually know exactly where everything is hiding. The walls have some old photos and the furniture is a bit worn out from people sitting and talking for hours. Jangi Road can get pretty loud with the traffic and the vendors, but inside we just focus on the patterns and the knots. Raj Carpets isn't a big corporation. It’s just a local place where we take pride in the stuff we have on the floor. We spend our mornings drinking tea and checking the inventory that came in from the weavers. It’s a lot of manual work, lifting heavy rolls and moving them around to see the colors in the natural light. We like the grit of the business. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning till night.
