Shree Umiya Plast has been operating out of Plot No. 28 in Gidc for quite some time now. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the heat from the machines that melt the plastic down. It’s a steady warmth that stays in the building even after we shut down for the night. There are bags of plastic granules stacked up to the ceiling in the back, and the sound of the hoppers feeding the lines is something we hear in our sleep. We don't have a front office with a fancy secretary. Usually, you just walk through the main door and find someone near the machines. The floor is concrete and has seen better days, but it holds up under the weight of the equipment. Being in Gidc means we deal with the usual stuff like power fluctuations and dusty roads, but we've got a good spot here at number 28. Our neighbors are mostly into metal or chemicals, so we are the ones with the piles of colorful plastic scrap out front. We keep things simple. We show up, turn the heaters on, and start the cycles. Sometimes the cooling water leaks a bit and we have to mop it up, but that’s just part of the day. It’s a practical place for practical work. We don't put on any acts for visitors; we just show them what we are running that day and talk over the noise of the fans.
