National Drum Traders

National Drum Traders is our business over in Zaid Market. We are at Shop No. 10 in the Jali Kothi area. If you know where Nadir Ali and Company is, we are just a short walk from there. As the name says, we trade in drums. We have hundreds of them in all shapes and sizes, mostly made of heavy plastic or metal. They are used for storing oils, chemicals, or water. The shop is basically a collection of high stacks that almost reach the roof. It’s a very physical job. We spend our days rolling drums around and loading them onto small trucks that struggle to fit through the narrow lanes of Zaid Market. The whole area is very crowded and noisy. There is always someone shouting for a path to be cleared. My clothes are usually covered in some kind of residue or dust from the barrels. We don't have a fancy office with chairs. Most of the time, we just sit on one of the empty drums when we take a break. It’s a tough business and it’s not very pretty, but it’s what we know. We’ve been here in Jali Kothi for years and we understand the rhythm of the market. We don't do any advertising. People who need drums know where to find us. It’s just hard work and a lot of heavy lifting in the heat.
