Out in Bhimpu village, you’ll find Mahata Poultries Private Limited. We are located at Khokan Mahata’s place, he’s the son of Rohini Mahata. It’s a real family-run feel here in Paschim Midnapur. The village life dictates how we work. We are up before the birds most mornings. Bhimpu is the kind of place where everyone knows what everyone else is doing, so we try to keep things orderly. Khokan is usually around the office area, which is just a simple room with some chairs and a lot of registers. We handle everything from here. It is a poultry business, so it’s never really clean or quiet. There is always the sound of chickens and the smell of the feed. We don't use any high-tech systems, just basic methods that work for us. Paschim Midnapur can be tough with the seasons, especially when the monsoon hits and the paths get soaked. We just keep the birds dry and move the stock as fast as we can. It’s a lot of physical labor, lifting crates and moving bags of grain. We don't have any polished brochures or marketing people. It’s just the Mahata family and some local hands making sure the poultry gets where it needs to go. It’s honest work, even if it’s tiring. Most days we finish up late and start all over again the next morning because that is just the way the farm life works for us.
