You’ll find us on Raya Road in the Mayapuri area of Mathura. It’s a busy part of town, and our school fits right into the local landscape. The building is a simple structure that we’ve made the most of over the years. We have classrooms for the different grades, and they’re filled with the usual stuff—desks that have seen better days, charts pinned to the walls, and blackboards with chalk dust everywhere. Mathura can get incredibly hot, so we spend a lot of our budget just keeping the electricity going for the fans. The Raya Road outside is always moving, so we have to keep the front gate shut tight to keep the noise and dust down. Our staff is mostly people from the nearby colonies who walk or ride their cycles to work. We don’t do a lot of fancy marketing. Most people find us because they live nearby or heard about us from a neighbor. The school day starts early, and there’s a specific kind of rhythm to it. The bell rings, the kids shuffle around, and the teachers get to work. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s steady. We just aim to provide a place where the local kids can come and get their work done without any fuss.
