We are located right near the Sambalpur High School, out here in the Pukhuria area. My name is on the paperwork, but it's really a family effort at Sona Khui Bricks. We’ve been at this spot for several years now. Being so close to the school, we see all the kids walking by every day. The brickyard is busy from morning till night. We mostly supply to the local area around Sambalpur village. It’s a lot of manual labor, moving the raw materials and stacking the finished bricks. We have a small crew of guys from the neighborhood who help us out. The ground gets pretty messy when it rains, making it tough for the trucks to get in and out. I spend a lot of my time on the phone or walking around the site checking the batches. We don't have any big corporate goals; we just want to make enough to keep the place running and pay everyone on time. Some days are better than others. If the kiln doesn't heat right, we lose a lot of time. But that's just the way it goes in this line of work. People know us as the place near the school. If you need a load of bricks for a foundation or a wall, we’re usually here. We just take it one day at a time and try to keep the stacks full.
