Our place is located in Village Kendue, which is situated right by the Bulbul Chandi railway station. You can usually hear the trains passing by while we are working, which kind of keeps the rhythm of the day going for all of us. Being so near the station is actually quite handy for getting materials in and out of the yard, though the local roads can be a bit bumpy after a heavy rain. We focus on making fly ash bricks here. It’s a bit different from the traditional red clay bricks people are used to seeing, but they’ve become quite common around here lately. The yard is usually full of tall stacks waiting to be moved out to construction sites. We started this business because there was a clear need for more building materials in this part of the district. It’s just a few of us running the machines and making sure the mix is right every single time. It gets loud and a bit messy with the ash, but that is just how it is with this kind of work. We don't have a lot of bells and whistles or a front desk. There's just a small shed where we sit to have our tea and talk about the day’s orders. Most of our customers are just local people from the surrounding villages who are building their own homes. We try to keep enough stock so nobody has to wait too long. It’s a steady life.
