Sri Jayam Ice Cream

If you walk down Kamala 2nd Street in Chockikulam, you will find us at number 2/196. It is a quiet enough street compared to the main roads, but we still get plenty of visitors. We started this because we wanted something to do in our own neighborhood. The shop isn't very large, but we managed to fit in everything we need. Most of our day is spent making sure the ice cream stays at the right temperature. If the machines act up, it’s a big headache, so we are always checking on them. We see the same faces every week, mostly neighbors who live just a few houses down. It’s nice knowing who is coming in. We don't use any fancy advertising or anything like that. We just put out a small sign and keep the door open. Sometimes we sit outside on the steps when things are slow and just watch the cars go by. It’s a simple life. We make sure the spoons are clean and the napkins are filled. When it gets really humid, the shop gets a bit cramped, but no one seems to mind much. We just want to provide a place where you can get a cold treat without a long wait. It’s been our daily grind for a while now, and we’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the street and the way the light hits the shop in the evening. We just keep things moving and stay open until the street goes quiet at night.
