Shakes-Pier Dessert is located at No 6, Kamarajar 2nd Street, right off Gokhale Road in Chinna Chokkikulam. Madurai is a hot city, so a place like ours makes sense here. We aren't a big chain with a huge budget. We just have this one spot. We spend our time mixing things up and trying to keep the machines running right. Sometimes the blenders act up or we run out of a certain ingredient, and we have to run out and find it. It’s a bit chaotic behind the counter, especially in the evenings when everyone comes out to walk around. The shop isn't very big, but we try to keep it tidy enough for everyone. We aren't trying to be the most famous place in town. We just want to serve people who live nearby. Most of our regulars are students or families from the neighborhood. We don't have a big marketing plan. We just rely on people seeing the sign when they walk down Kamarajar 2nd Street. It’s a small operation. Just a few of us working shifts and making sure things are prepared. We don't use fancy terms to describe what we do. It’s just desserts and shakes. We like being in Chinna Chokkikulam. It’s a lively area and there’s always something going on. We just stay busy and keep the fridge cold so the milk doesn't spoil.
