Senthil Neons

Senthil Neons is located at 71 Kanni Mariamman Kovil Street in K Pudhur. We are right down the street from the temple, so we hear the bells and the music during festival times. It’s a local neighborhood where everyone seems to know everyone else’s business. Our shop is just a single room with a high ceiling. We do a lot of our work on the floor because the tables aren't big enough for the long tubes and signs we handle. It can get pretty messy with wires and glass bits, but we try to sweep up every evening. The heat in K Pudhur can be quite intense, especially in May. We have a big old ceiling fan that wobbles a bit, but it keeps the air moving. We don’t have any fancy signage ourselves, ironically. People just know where we are. We get most of our work from local shopkeepers who want something bright for their storefronts. Sometimes we have to go out and install things, which takes us all over the city. We usually travel on a moped with the tools strapped to the back. It’s a simple way of working. We don't have a computer for billing; we just write everything down in a big ledger. It works for us. We take a long break in the afternoon when it's too hot to move and then work late into the evening.
