Usha Tent House

You can find us near Aarti Chowk in Parmjit Nagar, just off the main Ferozepur Road. This location is handy because we can get the trucks out to different parts of the city fairly easily, even when the traffic is bad. Our warehouse is basically a big shed packed with iron poles, folded tents, and stacks of plastic chairs. We also have piles of carpets and colored fabrics that we use for setting up functions. The work is mostly loading and unloading these heavy things. My back usually aches after a long day of moving the bamboo sets and the heavy canvas. When there is a wedding or a local fair, things get really frantic and we are up before the sun to start the setup. Sometimes it rains unexpectedly and we have to rush to cover everything or dry the cloth out later. It is not the kind of job where you stay clean. We spend a lot of time tieing knots and making sure the structures are sturdy enough so they don't blow over in the wind. We have a small crew and we just get the work done as it comes in. It is pretty simple, really. We keep the equipment ready and wait for the next call to come through on the landline. The phone rings a lot during the winter months when everyone wants to have their parties outside.
