At Ranjeet Commerce Coaching Centre on Chandigarh Road 17, things are usually pretty quiet until the college batches finish their morning lectures. We mainly focus on accounts and business math, so there’s always the sound of calculators clicking away in the room. I’ve been teaching here for a long time, and the place has stayed pretty much the same. We have these long wooden tables where the students spread out their big ledger books. The walls are lined with old cupboards that are mostly full of tax books and old exam papers from ten years ago. It’s located right on the main road, so it’s easy to find, even if the parking out front is a bit of a mess sometimes. We don't have any staff to answer phones or anything like that. If someone calls, I usually just pick it up myself between classes. In the winters, it gets quite cold in this part of Chandigarh, so we all sit with our jackets on while going over the balance sheets. The tubelights have a bit of a hum, and the floor is just plain grey stone that we sweep every morning before the first student arrives. It’s a very straightforward place. We aren't trying to be the biggest center in the city; we just want to make sure the kids who come here understand their debit and credit entries properly and don't feel lost during their exams.
