The Lakewood School

The Lakewood School is out in the Pakhowal area of Ludhiana. It is a bit of a drive from the city center, which means we have a bit more space and less of that heavy industrial noise. The building is quite large and stands out among the fields and smaller houses nearby. During the winter months, the fog in Ludhiana is so thick that the school looks like it is floating in white clouds until the sun finally comes out around noon. We have wide hallways where the sound of kids talking echoes all the way to the main office. The classrooms have big windows that let in a lot of light, though we have to keep them shut tight during the dusty months. We have a playground that is mostly grass, though it gets a bit worn down in the spots where the goalposts are. Our staff room is a busy place, usually smelling of parathas and tea during the lunch break. We spend a lot of time just managing the logistics of a school this size, from the bus schedules to making sure the roof does not leak when the heavy rains come. It is a straightforward place to work, and we all just do our part to keep the day moving along. We are used to the rhythm of the Pakhowal road and the way the seasons change the view from our windows.
