If you head down Pakhowal Road and get to Passi Chowk, you’ll find us. Palanisamy Paddy & Rice Merchant has been a fixture in this spot for quite some time. The smell of grain is pretty much part of the building now. It’s a busy corner, and there’s almost always someone pulling up to load or unload something. We deal with paddy and rice mostly, so the floors are usually covered in a bit of dust, no matter how much we sweep. It’s hard work, moving the heavy bags around, but we’re used to it. The shop isn’t fancy at all. We have a small area where we sit and talk to customers and then the big storage area in the back. Most of the people who come to us have been buying their rice here for years. They know the quality we have and they trust us. We don’t use any big marketing slogans or anything like that. We just show people what we have and let them decide. At Passi Chowk, things can get pretty loud with the traffic, but inside the shop, it feels a bit more grounded. Palanisamy Paddy & Rice Merchant is basically a family effort. We all pitch in where we can. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until late evening most days of the week.
