D.A.V. Engineering Works

Out here in Phase-5, Focal Point, it’s mostly just warehouses and workshops like ours. D.A.V. Engineering Works is at D-70, and if you drive past, you’ll likely hear the sound of machines running before you see the sign. We’ve got a lot of heavy equipment squeezed into the space, and it gets pretty loud and dusty during the day. I’ve been working with metal for most of my life, so the smell of oil and shavings is just normal to me now. We don't have a fancy office upstairs, just a small desk in the corner where we keep the blueprints and the phone. Most of the guys have been with us for years, and we just get on with the jobs as they come in. Some days it’s small repairs, other times we’re fabricating bigger parts for factories nearby. The roof leaks a little bit when it rains hard, so we have to move the pallets around to keep things dry. It’s not the cleanest place, but we know where every tool is kept. We usually have lunch together on the back bench near the loading dock. It’s hard work, and our hands are always stained with grease, but it feels good to actually make things that people use. We don't worry about being the biggest shop in the industrial area, just about finishing the work. We've got an old radio that plays local stations, providing a bit of background noise while we work.
