Dahela Engineers (India)

Our shop is Bxxi 3368, right across from the old Arora Palace on Gill Road. If you know where the cinema is, you can’t miss us. It’s a loud part of town with all the traffic on Gill Road, but we like it. Engineering is messy work. We have oil on our clothes and metal shavings on the floor by noon every day. We do a lot of repairs and custom bits for people who drop by. The building is older and has that smell of grease and cold metal that stays with you. We have some heavy lathes and drills that take up most of the space. It’s not a place for fancy clothes. My brother and I started this a long time ago and we’ve seen the neighborhood change quite a bit. Arora Palace isn't what it used to be, but it’s a good landmark for people finding us. We don’t spend money on advertising because people usually find us through word of mouth. When a machine breaks down, someone says to bring it to Gill Road. We work until the sun goes down and then we lock up the heavy gates. It’s a hard way to make a living sometimes, but it’s what we know. We don’t have a website or anything like that. Just the shop and the tools we’ve used for years. The rain usually leaks through the roof in one corner, so we move the machines away from there when it starts to pour.
