Burma Presses

Burma Presses is situated at 258 Industrial Area A. We are right near Cheema Chowk, which is always packed with traffic. You can hear the thud of the presses from the gate. It’s a heavy sound that you feel in your chest. We work with big sheets of metal. The machines are huge and they’ve been here longer than some of the staff. We keep them well-oil. The floor is thick concrete because it has to hold all that weight. We don't have any carpets or soft chairs here. Everything is built to last. We wear heavy boots and keep our eyes on the work. It’s not the kind of place where you can daydream. We have a small room where we keep the blue prints and some old ledgers. Most of our communication is just nodding or pointing because the machines are so loud. We’ve seen the industrial area change over the decades. New shops come and go, but we just stay here near Cheema Chowk. We have a routine that doesn't change much. We start when the sun comes up and we finish when the light gets too low to see properly. We don’t have a marketing department or a sales team. We just do the pressing work that comes our way. It’s a lot of physical labor, but it’s what we’ve always done. We don't think about it too much.
