Rajesh The Mithai Shop

I've spent most of my life around this part of Triveni Nagar, specifically here at 1-1, Brahma Nagar. Our shop, Rajesh The Mithai Shop, is right on the corner near Durga Mandir Road. If you know the area, you know how busy Sitapur Road gets, especially during the festive times of year. We aren't trying to be anything we’re not; we just make traditional sweets in the same way I learned years ago. The kitchen is cramped and it gets incredibly hot during the summer months, but the smell of roasting gram flour is something I never really get tired of. Most days, I’m in the back while my brother handles the customers out front. We have a few regular chairs for people to wait, but they’re usually occupied by the older men from Tulsi Puram who just like to sit and talk. The glass cases we use for display are old and sometimes the sliding doors stick a bit. We don't have any fancy machines, just our own hands and some basic tools. Sometimes a batch doesn't turn out looking perfect, but it tastes fine so we sell it anyway. It’s a local business, and we know almost everyone who walks through the door by their first name. We just focus on getting the daily batches done and making sure the shop is locked up tight at night so we can get some rest.
