Indrani Sweets

We’re at shop number 14/462 in Indira Nagar, right near the Pani Tanki in Sector-14. If you live around here in Lucknow, you probably know the landmark. Our shop is a small one, filled with trays of different sweets we make throughout the week. The work starts long before the sun comes up. We have to get the milk boiling and the sugar ready for the day’s batches. It’s a lot of heavy lifting with the big pots and stirring for hours. The shop can get quite warm from the heat of the burners. We don’t have much room for people to sit, so most folks just stand at the counter and pick out what they want. They take it away in little cardboard boxes. We’ve got the same regulars who come by every afternoon once the heat dies down a little. We spend a lot of time just talking to the neighbors while we pack up their orders. Lucknow is known for its food, and we’re just a small part of that tradition in this corner of Indira Nagar. Sometimes we run out of things earlier than expected, and other days we have plenty left over. It depends on the day. We don’t have any big marketing plans or anything like that. We just open the doors and get to work. The floor stays a bit sticky sometimes no matter how much we scrub it, but that’s just the nature of a sweet shop. It keeps us going.
