We have two units side by side, which helps when we have a lot of metal to move around. The floors are concrete and they've got plenty of scratches from the heavy sheets we handle. It's a bit dark inside even with the lights on, so we usually keep the big sliding doors wide open. You can hear the sound of metal clanging from the street. We’ve been here for quite some time, and we know most of the guys in the neighboring units. We share tools sometimes or help each other out with a lift. There is a small desk near the front where we keep the invoices and a very old calculator that still works fine. We don't spend much time on decorations. It's mostly just raw material stacked up against the walls and the smell of iron. The staff has been with us for years, so we all know the rhythm of the place. Lunch breaks are usually taken sitting on the crates outside. It is hard work, and your hands are always dirty by the end of the shift, but it’s a living. We just keep our heads down and get the metal ready for whoever needs it. Usually, we wrap things up by six.
