Faisal Craft

Down by IT Chauraha in Daliganj, you’ll find our little shop. It’s Shop No-8 on Faizabad Road. I’ve been sitting here for quite a while now. Faisal Craft is what we call it. It’s mostly about making things by hand. The area is always noisy with traffic, but inside it’s different. We have tools everywhere and bits of material on the floor. It’s not a showroom where everything is shiny. We actually make things here. Sometimes people stop by just to see what we are working on. We don't mind. I grew up around here so I know most of the neighbors. My father used to do this kind of work too. It’s a tradition for us. We use simple stuff to create things. Nothing too complicated. Sometimes the deliveries are late because the road gets blocked. That’s just Lucknow for you. We just keep working through it. If you need something specific made, we usually take a look and see if we can do it. It’s a small operation. Just me and a couple of others. We drink a lot of tea while we work. It keeps us going through the afternoon heat. It’s hard work but it’s what we know. If you are near the Chauraha, just look for the sign. We are usually there until late evening unless something comes up. It is a simple life and we enjoy the process of making things.
