We are based out of Buttekarwadi in Latur. If you ask for Gangaram Sude’s house, number 114, you will find where we meet. Latur can be a pretty tough place for farming because the water situation is always a bit shaky. Samruddha Shetkari was something we put together so we could survive those tough seasons together. We are not a big company with a huge bank account. We are just a group of farmers living in the same village. We grow what we can, mostly whatever the soil in the Ahmedpur area allows us to. Sometimes it is pulses, sometimes it is soy. We talk about what is working in the fields and what isn't. If one of us finds a better way to save some water, we all try it. It is not like those fancy agriculture companies you see on the news. We are just local guys in dusty clothes who know how to work a plough. The house where we meet is usually busy with people coming in and out at all hours. We do not have fixed office hours like a city job. If there is work in the field, we are out there. If there is paperwork to do, we sit down and finish it once the sun goes down. It is a simple life, but it is ours. We started this because we realized that on our own, we were not getting a fair price. Now, we have a little more strength as a group.
