Suvarndeep Farmer Producer Company Limited

Our office is really just House Number 147 in Babhalgaon, out in the Latur district. Suvarndeep Farmer Producer Company Limited is made up of people from around here who have been working the fields for as long as we can remember. Latur can be a tough place to be a farmer sometimes, especially when the water gets low, which seems to happen more often than we’d like. We decided to get organized because we were all facing the same problems with getting our crops to the bigger towns and getting a decent price. We aren’t experts in business or anything like that. We are just experts in our own land. We use the house to keep our records and meet up to talk about what we’re going to plant. It is a very informal setup. You might see us sitting on the porch talking about the cost of diesel or the new rules at the market. We don't have any big corporate goals. We just want to make sure our neighbors and ourselves can keep the farms running. It’s a lot of physical labor and a lot of worrying about the clouds, but doing it as a collective makes the stress a little easier to handle. We just take it one day at a time and try to do right by the land and each other.
