Pawar Sarthakkrushivikas Farmer Producer Company Limited is based out in Nagzari, over in the Latur district. We set up our main spot at Rukminbai Pawar’s place. It is not a big office, just a room where we can sit and talk about the crops and the money. Latur gets very hot and the soil gets dry, so farming here is never easy. We all know each other well because we have lived in Nagzari our whole lives. We thought if we worked as one company, we could get better prices for what we grow. Sometimes we grow soy or pulses, whatever the season allows. Dealing with middlemen was always a headache, so this company gives us a bit of a shield. We are just local farmers, not businessmen in suits. We talk about the rain a lot because that is what matters most to us. When you come to see us, do not expect a shiny building. It is just a regular house where we keep our records and meet up after a long day in the sun. We try to help the younger farmers learn the ropes too. It is a slow process to build something like this, but we are patient. We just want to make sure the work we do in the fields pays off at the end of the year. There is no secret to it, just long hours and a bit of luck with the weather. We stay focused on the work.
