Opal Hotel

If you find yourself at the Moffusil Bus Stand in Calicut, you’ve probably seen the Markaz Complex. We are right there, the Opal Hotel. It is a noisy spot, but we’ve gotten used to the sound of the buses honking and the crowds of people moving toward the Mavoor Road. Living and working right across from the bus stand means things never really stop. There is always someone coming or going. The building itself is part of that big complex, so there are always people milling around the hallways. We spend our time making sure the rooms are okay and the floors are swept. It is a lot of laundry and a lot of keys being handed back and forth. We don't have a big marble lobby or anything like that. It’s a practical place for people who need to stay in the heart of Calicut. Sometimes the elevators are a bit slow, and people have to wait, but that’s just how it is in an older building. We see all kinds of travelers here, from students to businessmen. Most of them are just looking for a place to rest their heads for a night. We don't do much fancy talking. We just show you where things are and let you be. The view of the street from the windows is always interesting, especially at night when all the signs are lit up.
