Marbasil Flour Mill is located in the Chandys Building over in Khumbleri. It’s part of the Meenangadi area. The mill has been running for quite some time now. If you walk into the Chandys Building, you’ll notice the white dust from the flour almost immediately. We use old-style grinding methods because that’s what we know. It’s a noisy environment when the motors are going, but we’re used to it. Local farmers and housewives bring their grains to us to get them turned into flour. We don’t have any fancy packaging or branding. People usually bring their own containers or bags. It’s a very direct way of doing business. Meenangadi is a place where people still appreciate things made the traditional way. We don't have a big office or a marketing team. It’s just us and the machines. Sometimes the belts break and we have to fix them on the fly. We keep some spare parts in the corner just for that. The Chandys Building is a solid old place that stays relatively cool even when it's hot outside. We enjoy the work, even if it is repetitive. It’s satisfying to see the grain go in one end and the fine flour come out the other. We’ve been here in Khumbleri long enough that we feel like part of the furniture. We just take it one day at a time and keep the stones turning as long as there is grain to grind. It’s a simple life and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
