Shine Systems

Kadayanallur is a lively place, especially where we are. Shine Systems is right at No:1, Madurai Main Road, so you can't really miss us if you are near the bus stop. The buses make a lot of noise pulling in and out all day, but you get used to it. The shop is usually a bit messy because we have parts and tools all over the counters. We try to keep it organized, but when it gets busy, that's the first thing to go. My nephew helps out sometimes after school. We mostly fix things that people bring in from the village. It’s a lot of work with our hands, dusty and greasy. The tea shop next door is where we spend most of our breaks. The owner there, Ravi, makes a very strong ginger tea that keeps us going in the afternoons. Sometimes the rain comes down so hard we have to shut the front doors to keep the water from splashing in from the road. We’ve been here for quite a few years now. The floor tiles are cracked in a few places, but it doesn't bother anyone. We just focus on the work in front of us. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s what we know. People stop by to chat even when they don't have anything broken. That's just how the neighborhood is around here. We open up at nine and stay until late. It works for us.
