Jaimatha Estates

Our home and office are at the Pallickaparampil house in Monippally. It’s a quiet spot near the post office. We’ve lived here for a long time. The estate work keeps us outside most of the day. We don't have a big staff. It's mostly family and a few helpers from the village. We grow what we can and manage the land as best as we know how. The house has a big porch where we sit and talk about the plans for the next week. We don't use much technology. We have an old diary where we record the rainfall and the harvests. Monippally is a place where everyone knows your business anyway. We don't need to advertise. If someone needs something from the estate, they just walk up the driveway. The trees provide a lot of shade but the humidity is still tough in the afternoons. We spend a lot of time fixing fences or checking the soil. It’s physical work that leaves you tired. We have a few old sheds for the tools. They need painting but they keep the rain off. We don't have a mission statement. We just want to keep the land productive. It’s been passed down and we feel responsible for it. Sometimes the harvest is good and sometimes it’s not. We just take it as it comes. It’s a slow life here compared to the city. We are quite content with the way things are.
