If you come down to Dhanmandi you will find us right in the thick of things. This area is always full of dust from the grain bags and the noise of trucks backing up. Our food place is quite small and the walls are a bit darkened from the stove smoke over the years. We have some basic metal tables and stools that have seen better days. It is mostly workers from the market who come here to get a quick meal during their break. We don't have a big printed menu or anything like that. We just make what is ready for the day. Usually, it is just simple stuff that fills the stomach. The kitchen area is right there so you can see the steam coming off the pots. It gets very crowded around noon and sometimes people have to wait for a stool to open up. I spend most of my time shouting orders back to the cook or counting change. The heat in Dhanmandi can be really bad in June and we only have one small desert cooler that doesn't do much. We are used to the grit and the noise by now. We don't have any fancy signs or lights outside. People just know where we are because we have been in the same spot for so long. It is just a practical place to eat and then get back to work in the mandi.
