Mehta Mobile Point

If you walk down Chhawani Road, you’ll find us at Mehta Mobile Point right where the traffic starts to get heavy. The shop is mostly glass counters filled with different colored phone cases and screen guards that never seem to stay organized for long. We spend most of our time hunched over a workbench with a small screwdriver or trying to explain why a battery isn't holding a charge like it used to. It gets busy in the evenings when everyone is heading home and stops by for a quick recharge or a new pair of earphones because they lost their old ones. The floor needs a sweep pretty much every hour with all the foot traffic. We have a small stool in the corner where we sit when things go quiet for five minutes. It’s mostly just us and the sound of the fans spinning overhead. Sometimes the new models come in and we have to find space on the walls for more posters. We don't have a big team, just a couple of us who know where everything is kept. If a customer asks for a specific cable, we usually have to dig through a drawer for a minute to find the right one. It is a steady life here on the road. We see the same faces every week and know which kids are likely to drop their phones. We keep a small stash of spare parts in labeled tins that only we can understand.
