Kapoor Watch & Mobile

Our shop, Kapoor Watch & Mobile, sits right on Talwandi Om Cine Plex Road. It’s a good spot because there are always people moving toward the cinema or coming back from the shops nearby. We have two different things going on here. On one side, we have the watches, which is how we started out. You’ve got all those tiny gears and batteries that need a steady hand. On the other side, we deal with mobile phones because that is what everyone carries now. It is funny to see the old mechanical watches sitting near the modern smartphones. Most of the work involves changing out batteries or fixing a strap that has finally snapped after years of use. For the phones, it is usually broken glass or software that is acting up. The road outside can get very noisy with the bikes and the horns, but inside, we try to keep things quiet enough to concentrate on the small parts. We have a few glass counters that we are constantly cleaning because of the fingerprints. It gets quite hot in the afternoons when the sun hits the front of the shop, so we usually have the fan running at full speed. People stop in on their way to a movie sometimes just to ask for the time or to see if we can fix a button that got stuck. It’s a simple business and we just do our work day by day.
