Jai Shree Krishna

Jai Shree Krishna is the name of our shop, and you can find us at Shop No-1 on the Rawatbhata Road in Gumanpura. Being at the first shop in the row means we see everyone as they come and go. It’s a decent-sized space but we’ve filled it up with all sorts of things over time. I usually get here quite early to sweep the front and get the displays ready for the day. Rawatbhata Road is one of those places that never really sleeps, so there is always a layer of road dust on the counter by noon. I sell a bit of everything, the kind of things people realize they need at the last minute. It might be a lightbulb or some batteries or even just a pack of biscuits for tea. I don't have a big fancy sign, just the name above the door. Most people around here know me by now because I’ve been here so long. I’ve lived in Gumanpura for a long time, so I’ve seen how the shops have changed hands over the years. My shop stays pretty much the same though. I sit on a wooden stool behind the counter and wait for the next person to walk in. Sometimes it’s quiet and I just read the paper or watch the motorcycles go by. Other times, it’s a rush and I’m scrambling to find change for a big note. It’s just the way it goes here at Shop No-1. We just keep the doors open and do our best to stay stocked up.
