Unicorn Developer House

Our office is right on 51/59 Dum Dum Road in Kolkata. If you’re familiar with the area, we are directly opposite Indira Maidan. It’s a very lively spot, especially when there’s a football match or a fair going on at the Maidan. The sound of trams and buses is something we hear all day long. We work in the development side of things, which means we spend a lot of time looking at old buildings and thinking about how to make them into something new. The office in Motijhil is usually full of maps and sketches. We don’t have a lot of modern furniture; it’s mostly old wooden desks and chairs that have been around for years. People from the neighborhood often drop in just to ask about property prices or what’s being built down the street. We’ve lived and worked in Kolkata all our lives, so we understand how the city works, with its narrow lanes and complicated paperwork. It’s a lot of running around to different government offices and meeting with contractors who are often late. We don’t mind it much, it’s just part of the job. Things move slowly sometimes, but that’s just how it is here. We focus on getting the blocks laid and the permits signed. It’s not a glamorous life, but seeing a building actually get finished makes the long days on Dum Dum Road worth it. We just keep at it every single day.
