Tuki Taki

This shop is situated on APC Roy Road in Kolkata. It’s right near the more, which means there is always a crowd of people walking past the door. The name Tuki Taki means a bit of everything, and that is exactly what is kept here. You’ll find small household items, some stationery, or just little bits and pieces needed for the home. Kolkata is always quite humid, so the shop can feel a little stuffy in the middle of the afternoon. A small stool sits behind the counter for when things are quiet. The wooden shelves are old and have seen better days. Even if the light isn't the brightest inside, we know exactly where everything is stored. People stop by on their way home from work to pick up things they missed earlier. It’s not a big supermarket or anything modern. Just a local spot where people know our faces. The noise from the street is constant with the buses and those yellow taxis honking. Supplies arrive from the local distributors every few days. Sometimes the boxes take up too much room on the floor until there is time to unpack them. It gets very busy during the festivals when everyone needs specific items. We just do the daily work and try to stay on top of the stock. There’s always a shelf to straighten up. It’s just normal day-to-day business on the main road for us. Most of the regulars are people who have lived in this area for decades.
