We are over at 9/8 East Mall Road in Kolkata-700080. Most people know us because we are the ones who organize the big Kolkata Book Fair every year. That is a massive job and it takes up most of our energy. The Publishers And Booksellers Guild isn't just about that one event, though. We spend the whole year talking to different publishers and bookstores. Our office on East Mall Road is usually filled with stacks of books and old flyers. It is a bit of a maze in here sometimes. We aren't a corporate giant; we are more like a group of people who really care about the local book scene. There is a lot of arguing and debating about who gets which stall and where the stages should go. It is never quiet. When the fair isn't happening, we are still here, planning the next one or helping out with smaller book events. We do not have a polished way of talking about ourselves. We are just the people behind the scenes making sure the gates open on time. It is a lot of paperwork and dealing with the city authorities. Sometimes it feels like we are just moving piles of paper from one desk to another. But when the fair starts and the crowds show up, all the work at East Mall Road feels worth it. It is just what we do every year.
