We are based at 10/2B Ramanath Majumdar Street over in Barrackpore. It is an old street with a lot of character, and our building fits right in with the rest of them. There is always that specific smell of paper and ink inside the shop, which I guess is what happens when you spend your life around books and printing. We don't have a huge storefront, but the shelves are packed from the floor all the way to the ceiling. Sometimes it feels like the stacks of paper might tip over if you pull the wrong one out. We spend a lot of time checking proofs and making sure the text looks okay before things go out. Barrackpore has a quiet feel compared to the city, but Ramanath Majumdar Street can get a bit crowded with pedestrians in the evening. We usually have the radio playing softly in the background while we work on the latest project. It’s a lot of manual work, moving boxes around and organizing the stock so we can actually find what we need. Sometimes the neighbors come in just to chat for a few minutes while we are sorting through the mail. We don't have any fancy signs or modern furniture, just the old wooden tables we’ve used for years. It’s a slow and steady kind of business. We just keep our heads down and focus on the pages in front of us. There is always a lot to do before the courier arrives.
