Keepuma Msbj Marslart School

Keepuma Msbj Marslart School is up on the third floor of number 190 on Sarat Bose Road. Being in Gariahat, it’s always a bit of a scramble to get through the traffic and the crowds from the market nearby. We’ve been operating out of this space for a while now, and if you know the area, you know how busy it gets around here. The stairs can be a bit of a workout even before the actual training starts. We don’t have a massive sign or anything too flashy outside. It is just a place where we get together to practice martial arts. The mats are a bit worn in spots but they do the job just fine. Most days, the hall is filled with the sound of feet hitting the floor and people trying to get their forms right. It gets pretty hot during the summer months, but the fans keep things moving enough to keep going. We see a lot of the same faces every week, mostly folks from around the neighborhood or kids whose parents work in the shops nearby. It isn't a corporate gym with fancy towels or a juice bar. It is just a local spot for people who actually want to learn. Sometimes we hang around after a session just talking near the window overlooking the street. Life in Kolkata moves fast, but up here, we just focus on the movement and the breath. We don't really do much advertising, word of mouth is mostly how people find us.
