Our office is tucked away in the Park Circus area, specifically at 22 E Gora Chand Lane inside the Allah Rakha Manzil building. If you are familiar with this part of Kolkata, you know it is a really crowded and noisy neighborhood, but we have made our home here for a good while now. It is Fatema Alam’s place, and this is where we take care of all the technical service work that comes our way. The stairs leading up to our office are a little bit narrow and steep, and the sound of the traffic from the street usually drifts inside through the windows all day. We are not some huge corporation with hundreds of employees in fancy suits. It is just a handful of us sitting at our desks, surrounded by a lot of cables, computer parts, and plenty of half-empty tea cups. Sometimes the internet connection acts up or the power goes out for a bit, which is just something you deal with in this city. We spend most of our time on the phones or trying to fix specific technical problems for people who need a hand. The desks get covered in sticky notes and old instruction manuals that we have not thrown away yet. We do not really care about having fancy decorations because we are usually too busy with the work right in front of us. Most of us live nearby so we know exactly where to get a decent lunch.
