Jadhav N Pandurang

Our place is at 89 Netaji Subhash Road. It’s a very old street and the buildings all sit very close together. Jadhav N Pandurang is the name on the board, and we’ve been here for many years. It started small and it’s still a relatively modest operation. The street outside is always filled with the sound of horns and people shouting. We have a heavy wooden door that we open up every morning around nine. Inside, the shelves are piled high with old ledgers and various items we stock. It’s a bit dark inside because the building is deep and narrow, but we like the cool air away from the sun. We don't use much technology here, mostly just doing things the way they’ve always been done. My father used to sit at the same desk where I sit now. We know most of our customers by their first names because they’ve been coming to Netaji Subhash Road for decades. Sometimes the rain leaks in a little near the back window, but we just put a bucket down and keep going. We aren’t trying to compete with the big modern shops in the malls. We just provide what people need and keep the business running smoothly day by day. It’s a simple life on a very busy road. We usually lock up around seven and head home, ready to do the same thing again the next morning without much fuss and bother.
