Hindusthan Travels

The Hindusthan Travels office is at No. 183 / 2 Lenin Sarani, right in the Esplanade area on the second floor. If you've been to Esplanade, you know how crowded it gets with the trams, buses, and all the people walking around. We’ve been here for quite some time now. To get to us, you have to walk up the stairs, which can be a bit tiring if it’s a hot day in Kolkata. The office is usually packed with posters and old ledgers. We spend the day handling ticket bookings and talking to people who want to travel across the state or even further. It’s a lot of talking on the phone and writing things down in our books. Sometimes the fans overhead don't seem to do much against the heat, but we just keep working. We see all sorts of people coming through our door, from students to old couples. We don't use any fancy marketing tricks or have a shiny storefront. It’s a very old-school way of doing things, but it works for us. We know the bus routes and the train schedules almost by heart. The area outside is always noisy with horns and shouting, but inside we just focus on the task at hand. It’s a busy, cramped space but it’s where we’ve done our business for years. We just try to get people their tickets without too much fuss.
