I have been working out of this spot at 46/C/24 B.B.Ghosh Sarani for some time now. Kolkata has a way of being noisy and quiet at the same time, and this street is no different. Most mornings, I get here a bit late because the traffic near the 700054 area is unpredictable. The office isn't anything fancy. It’s a small room with a desk that has seen better days and a couple of chairs for when people stop by. My name is Haimanti Das, and I mostly handle everything myself here. Sometimes the neighbors pop in just to chat about the weather or the price of fish. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but they hold up the roof just fine. I spend a lot of time looking at the files stacked in the corner. It is mostly paperwork and some local projects I manage. People ask if I am going to move to a bigger place, but the rent is decent and I know everyone on this block. There is a tea stall right around the corner that makes strong ginger chai, which helps when the monsoon rain starts hitting the shutters. It gets pretty humid inside during July, so the ceiling fan stays on high speed all day. It’s just a regular place where work gets done without much fuss. We don't have a big sign outside, just the number on the door. It feels right for how things are.
