Canning Street is always a mess of people and carts. Our office is right there at 137, on the third floor. You have to walk past the Jessop Building to find us. It’s an old part of the city. The stairs are a bit steep and the building has that specific smell of old paper and dust. We’re right opposite the P.N.B. and near the crossing of N.S. Road. It’s a very loud spot. You can hear the horns honking all day long. Inside, it’s mostly just desks piled high with files. We’ve been here a long time. The associates are usually busy typing or talking to people who come in from the street. It’s not the kind of place with fancy carpets or glass walls. We use what we have. Most of our day is spent reading documents or filling out forms. It’s practical work. Sometimes the electricity goes for a bit, but we just wait it out. There’s a tea stall downstairs that everyone goes to. You see the same faces every morning at the crossing. It’s a bit cramped in the office when we have many visitors. We just pull up more chairs. The windows look out over the street traffic. It’s busy, it’s noisy, but it’s where we do our things. We don't really have a big sign, just the name on the door. It’s enough for folks to find us.
